National Debate Mate Competition
Chobham Debate Students were chosen out of over 240 schools across the country to compete in the National Debate Mate competition this week. The competition was high and our team won two out of their three debates, arguing for the following motions: “This House believes that we should break up large technology companies”; “This House believes that more children’s stories should have unhappy endings”; and “This House believes that advertising for the armed forces should be banned.” Students were also given the fantastic opportunity to spectate in the House of Commons, watching John Bercow chair MPs questions on topics ranging from healthcare, transport, environment and education.
The students who took part represented the Academy amazingly and were:
- Ife Akinboboye – Year 9
- Serai Matthews – Year 9
- Thomas Drew – Year 9
- Haroon Sheik – Year 9
- Laura Padilha – Year 9
- Subhaan Amin – Year 7
