Over 80 students from Year 5 - Year 12 took part in this year’s Academy production of School of Rock. This production challenged both staff and students in a different capacity and explored something we have never done here before; having students playing instruments live on stage. Culminating in 4 performances, the cast captivated each of their audiences with infectious energy and professionalism, transforming the theatre into a live rock concert. School of Rock follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, played by our Y9 GCSE Drama student Thomas Drew, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school under the command of the strict and uptight principal, Rosalie Mullins, played by Charity Rymer and Ife Akinboboye. When he discovers his students’ musical talents, he enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands. As a faculty, we are incredibly proud of all the students who took part. There is a fantastic buzz amongst the students and we want to keep this momentum going. Look out for next year’s production, it’s sure to be another outstanding demonstration of the talents we have within the Academy.
